Kristal’s Story

by | Sep 6, 2024 | Campaigns, Stories of Transformation

When Kristal began the program, she was ready to file for bankruptcy after a rough separation and divorce.

Finding out about the Life Skills Program from her sister’s employee resource department, she took the courageous first step and began attending with her family.

To their surprise, they enjoyed coming.

“We looked forward to going and were sad when it came to an end and we successfully completed the program. The amount of relationships I built that are still intact to this day have been such a blessing and God sighting!”

Kristal found financial, spiritual and moral support through the Life Skills Program.

“The financial literacy class was extremely helpful, but meeting with my peer support each week and putting it into practice is what brought true change to my life.”

While building those relationships, Kristal could earn resources like weekly groceries (including diapers!) and gas. She was able to access back to school clothing and new school supplies during a season where extra cash is hard to come by – and she was able to achieve a big goal and buy their home!

“Love and their partner churches helped us with used furniture, dishes, even brand new beds! The list of how they helped is surely endless.”

Because of this program, Kristal was able to completely get out of debt.

“Life is different now because I am a different person entirely. I have more knowledge and life experience and I’ve also grown in faith, realizing the love of Christ and the community for me is great! We are not in this alone! If telt good to be surrounded by Christ’s love. I think it’s what brought me back into fellowship at church.”

Kristal has already volunteered and had a “full circle moment” when facilitating several Life Skills classes, and can’t wait to volunteer in a greater capacity when her kids are a bit older.
