Jodi’s Story

During the 15 years that I worked as an Outreach Director for a local church, I invested a lot in learning how to engage and invite people in our community into church.  Our church was passionate and welcoming, and we tried very hard to understand the needs of people living around us. But after 15 years, I was pretty disillusioned about the possibility that we could make any real difference.  I stepped into a different career, content that I had “been there, done that” when it came to community transformation.

Then my pastor invited me to attend a 6-week biblical study called “Serving with Dignity” with a large team from the church plant I was part of.  Week by week, I had my understanding of responding to people’s needs turned upside down, and slowly understood that God calls us to an entirely different way of interacting with people.

During this time, a good friend encouraged me to consider working at Love.  I was thoroughly enjoying my work as a therapist, and was absolutely not thinking of a career change, but after experiencing the profound shift in thinking I had in , I couldn’t avoid feeling like Love was where God was calling me.

After almost five years, one of my favorite parts of this job is leading other churches and individuals through Serving with Dignity. The most rewarding part of my job is getting to witness up close how God transforms the lives of his children. Serving with Dignity has shaped me, and shaped how we address human need at Love.
