As we enter into the season of giving we have been given the perfect opportunity to fight local hunger! Meijer Simply Give is a campaign that provides funds for local food pantries.
Meijer Simply Give program has been around since November 2008, and has donated over $50 million to food pantries to date. According to the Meijer Simply Give website, “instead of determining what food to donate to our food pantry partners, the Simply Give program allows them the flexibility to choose grocery items best suited for the families they serve in their communities. And this includes baby food, formula, diapers and wipes.” The Hudsonville Meijer empowers the Love INC Food Pantry to continue a dignified way of offering groceries to families. We can offer them items that they need and request rather than only whatever is stocked on our shelves.
Each week, the Love INC food pantry feeds over 60 local families. These families are a part of our Life Skills program. As they continue to attend the program, they earn vouchers for groceries, gas, haircuts, clothes, and many other necessities.
Without programs like Meijer Simply Give, and food drives in the community, our food pantry would spend over $4,000 each week on groceries for the families we support.
