What’s Next?

by | Oct 3, 2016 | Notes from the Executive Director

And as God’s grace reaches more and more people, there will be great thanksgiving, and God will receive more and more glory. (2 Corinthians 4:15b)

There is nothing better than a Michigan summer. It is hoped that this favorite season fills our tank with enough beautiful moments that we are ready for the time of year when we start to ask, “What’s next?”

Summer is when many of our church partners work the hardest as they dream big on how to engage their faith community in transformative ministry. What will be the programs and opportunities that God presents us with to go and make disciples, enriching individuals and families?

These are the questions that we also engage in at Love In the Name of Christ, working with our local church partners to support the Church in its opportunity to journey with our most vulnerable neighbors. We are excited to see life change and transformation as faithful followers of Christ partner with us in ministry!

Whether it be through the giving of your time and talent as a volunteer or through the giving of your treasure as you donate gently used items or make a financial contribution, each of these contributions is vital to the ongoing ministry and transformation we get to be part of as we serve together in Hudsonville, Jenison and Grandville.

Thanks for playing your part as we minister together! We do, indeed, give God all the glory!
-Lisa Mathews, Executive Director

It’s quite incredible that all of this happens almost every day, and every week, by diligent volunteers who embody our diligence core value.

Not only is there a large variety of “things to do,” but also a deep investment by those who say yes to volunteering. Most volunteers serve weekly, some even daily, spending hundreds of hours donating the gift many of us hold most tightly – the gift of time.

In 2023 alone, 420 volunteers invested 49,120 hours – a value of $1.5 million!

Our core mission is to love, serve and connect with dignity as we follow Jesus Christ closely, watching how he transforms lives – and we often highlight the transformation happening through our Life Skills Program.

What we often forget to highlight is that God is also transforming lives through volunteerism, giving community members purpose, friendship, creativity, and belonging. Here at Love, we believe everyone has something to offer.

If you are a volunteer, at Love Your Neighbor or elsewhere, thank you for this priceless gift!
